Verb to be ( was , were ) + V. ing
--> Verb to be
1. การใช้ was / were (รูปอดีตของ Verb to be) ใน Past continuous
ประธานเอกพจน์ -----> was
ประธานพหูพจน์ -----> were
- ประธานเอกพจน์บุรุษที่ 1 "I" ใช้ "was"
- ประธานพหูพจน์บุรุษที่ 1 "we" ใช้ "were"
- ประธานเอกพจน์หรือพหูพจน์บุรุษที่ 2 "you" ใช้ "were"
- ประธานเอกพจน์บุรุษที่ 3 "he/she/it" ใช้ "was"
- ประธานพหูพจน์บุรุษที่ 3 "they" ใช้ "were"
Ex. " I was eating."
"You were eating."
2. การทำประโยค Past Continuous เป็นประโยคปฏิเสธ ให้ใส่ "not" ข้างหลัง "was/were"
Ex. " I was not eating."
"You were not eating."
3. การทำประโยค Past Continuous เป็นประโยคคำถาม ประเภท Yes/No Question หรือ Wh-Question ให้นำ was/were วางไว้หน้าประธาน
Ex. " Was he eating?"
" Were you eating?"
หลักการใช้ Past Continuous Tense
1. ใช้ Past Continuous กับการกระทำที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่ ณ ช่วงเวลาใดเวลาหนึ่งในอดีตที่ระบุไว้อย่างชัดเจน
Ex. " I was staying at home at this time yesterday."
" What were you doing at eleven o'clock last night?"
2. ใช้ Past Continuous กับเหตุการณ์สองเหตุการณ์ ที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่ในเวลาเดียวกันในอดีต
Ex. " I was singing while my sister was sweeping the floor."
" He was repairing his car as I was having dinner."
3. ใช้ Past Continuous แสดงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเหตุการณ์หนึ่ง กับอีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่งที่เกิดขึ้นมาในอดีต โดยเหตุการณ์หนึ่งเกิดขึ้น และกำลังดำเนินอยู่ ก็มีอีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่งแทรกเข้ามา
- เหตุการณ์ที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่ใช้ Past Continuous
- อีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่งก็เกิดแทรกเข้ามาใช้ Past Simple
Ex. " Nut was walking alone the road when the accident happened."
" I saw her as she was getting off the bus."
