ใช้ Article "a" นำหน้าคำนามที่พยางค์แรกออกเสียงพยัญชนะ
ใช้ Article "an" นำหน้าคำนามที่พยางค์แรกออกเสียงสระ
   ตัวอย่าง   Would you like a pencil?
                    Have you ever seen an eagle?

Note:
1. สระบางตัวออกเสียงพยัณชนะ ใช้ Article "a"
     Ex. "a uniform , a European , a university, a user "
2. พยัญชนะตอน "h" ในบางคำไม่ออกเสียง จึงทำให้คำๆนั้นมีเสียงต้นเป็นเสียงสระ จึงใช้ Article                  "an"
    Ex. " an honor, an hour , an honest, an heir"


หลักการใช้ Article "a,an"

1. Article "a,an" ใช้กับคำนามเอกพจน์ที่นับจำนวนได้
  Ex. "a dog , a piece,an umbrella"


2. Article "a,an" ใช้กับคำนามเอกพจน์ที่นับจำนวนได้ เมื่อเอ่ยทั่วๆไปไม่ชี้เฉพาะ
  Ex. " I am looking for a job."
        "An old man always tells an interesting story."

3. Article "a,an"  ใช้กับคำนามที่นับจำนวนได้ ในความหมายว่า "หนึ่ง"
  Ex. " She wants to buy an umbrella for  her aunt. "
        " My teacher is an important man for me."

4. Article "a,an" ใช้กับคำนามที่แสดง " พวกหรือชนิดคำนาม"นั้น
  Ex. " A dog is a faithful animal."
        " A snake is very dangerous for a child"

5. Article "a,an" ใช้คำนามเอกพจน์ที่นับจำนวนได้ เมื่อตามหลัง Verb to be.
  Ex. " It is a busy day."
        " My boss is an industrious businessman."

6. Article "a,an" ใช้กับคำนามแสดง "อาชีพ"
  Ex. " My father is an engineer."
        " His wife works in a hospital. She is a nurse."

7. Article "a,an" ใช้กับคำนามที่เป็นจำนวนนับจำนวนได้ เมื่อเอ่ยถึงครั้งแรก
  Ex. " My aunt has a cat and a dog in her house."
        " I saw an accident yesterday.
 Note : เมื่อกล่าวถึงเป็นครั้งที่สอง ให้ใช้ Article "the" นำหน้านามนั้น

8. Article "a,an" ใช้กับ "อาการเจ็บไข้ได้ป่วยที่ไม่รุนแรง"
  Ex. " I have a toothache, so I can't work."
        " He caught a cold many time this month.

9. Article "a,an" ใช้นำหน้าคำนามที่แสดง "จำนวนมากและจำนวนน้อย"
  Ex. " The house needs a large number of carpenters."
        " My son has a little money"

10. Article "a,an" ใช้กับวลีเฉพาะบางวลี เช่น
      It's a pity, in a hurry , take an interest , take a nap, take a rest เป็นต้น
  Ex. " It's a shame that he said it."
        " Are you in a hurry."

11. Article "a,an" ใช้กับ "เวลา การชั่ง การตวง การวัด" เช่น
      Have a day, 60 baht a kilo, three time a week เป็นต้น
  Ex. " Gasoline costs 59.95 bath a liter."
        " It costs 45 bath a kilogram."
